Rolling through memories

I started roller skating when I was in 2nd grade, and honestly, nothing has ever made me feel the way skating did. The moment I put on my skates, it felt like the world blurred and everything else just faded away. The rush of dopamine when I picked up speed- that mix of freedom and fear- was addictive in the best way. I spent years practicing, collecting medals, and loving every second of it. But when Covid hit in 8th grade, everything came to a stop. The rinks closed, routines disappeared, and I slowly lost that rhythm I had built for so long. Its strange how something that once felt like second nature can suddenly feel distant. Still, every time I see a smooth road or hear the sounds of skates rolling, I feel that old spark again- the one that reminds me just how alive skating once made me feel.
